Rick F. Payne Beloved father and horseman, passed away at his home in Woodside on October 20, 2007 at the age of 60. Rick is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Wayne Goodspeed, his Mother, Marilyn, his three siblings, Jim, Linda and Jeff Payne, as well as by his canine companion Dallas, his horses Reina and Tammy, and many friends. Rick was born in San Francisco and moved to Woodside in 1978. Since his move to Woodside, he became very active in the local horse community. His accomplishments included past president of both the San Mateo County Horsemen's Association and the San Francisco Horsemen's Association, and past captain of the San Mateo County Mounted Patrol. He was also an active member of the Los Viajeros, Shack Riders, Volunteer Horse Patrol, Wine Country Peruvian Paso Horse Club, and the Santa Cruz County Horsemen. He was a past member of the Woodside Trails Committee and the San Francisco Mounted Sheriff's Posse. Rick was an enthusiastic equestrian and loved to travel to different camping spots to share and enjoy long rides with his horses and his friends. Rick was always willing to give a helping hand in order to improve or better the local horse community. When Rick wasn't riding his horse, he enjoyed line dancing and social galas. After retirement, Rick turned his life long career of automobile restoration into a hobby. A celebration of Rick's life will be held at the Mounted Patrol of San Mateo County on Sunday, October 28th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Rick's name to the Mounted Patrol Foundation or your favorite horse or trail related charity.
