Parades

The SFHA has a long history of riding in parades in the Bay area, notably the Columbus Day and St. Patrick's Day Parades in San Francisco, and the July 4th Parade in Half Moon Bay.

All members are welcome to ride with us in a parade! Here are some rules and guidelines:

Attire for Western riders:
White Shirt, black boots, dark blue jeans , black hat (no baseball hats or visors), club jacket if you have one or dark color jacket, red scarves provided by SFHA.

Attire for English riders:
White Shirt, black boots, black or navy breeches, black hat (no baseball hats or visors), club jacket if you have one or dark color jacket, red scarves provided by SFHA.

All riders
Please return your red scarf and saddle cloth to the SFHA organizer of that parade ride.

As usual:

  • No stallions.
  • All horses must be fully tacked up. Saddles & bridles are required - no riding in halters alone.
  • You MUST stay on the route designated by the parades officials.
  • If your horse kicks, please tie a red ribbon on its tail and try to stay towards the rear (no pun intended!)
  • Let’s not pick up any hitchhikers: no riding double at any time.
  • Spectators will want to take pictures of the horses. This is okay, but let’s try to keep them at a safe distance from the horses.
  • If folks want to pet the horses, let’s keep them at the front half only!
  • For safety reasons there is no throwing of candy allowed.

Remember: we are representing the San Francisco Horsemen's Association and we want to look our VERY best.
